Nice - (Fall 2024) - Day 2

Nice is named after the winged Greek goddess of victory (just like your gym shoes)

Morning in Nice

Very mild winter weather in Nice. Every morning this swim club would meet and paddle out into the warm waters here.

Every morning the Promenade des Anglais would be filled with people running or strolling the path along the water.

This is one end of the path on the north side and it goes for miles down towards the airport.

Place Masséna and Fontaine du Soleil

Walking Tour

We did the free tour again where you just tip the guide afterward and again the tour was excellent. It was about 2 hours and the guide gave excellent bits of history, stories, and facts about Nice. It winds up being a great way to start a visit in a new city. The tour started at the Apollo statue and goes everywhere in Old Nice (or Vieux Nice).

Tour ended here with a view from the north side of the beach.

Not possible to get a photo of this with no people in it.

La Vieille Crepe

After the tour, we headed back into Old Nice for some lunch. This creperie caught our attention earlier when we walked by it so we decided to go back and try it. Got a couple of savory crepes to fuel us up for the rest of the day.

Place Masséna and Fontaine du Soleil at Night

Brasserie Lou Pastrouil

They have happy hours here! The sandwich board sign was advertising the deal so we stopped in for a drink to start the evening. It seemed like there were plenty of other folks doing the same thing. The location of this place is good as it sits by a busy square by the courthouse so it’s a good people watching spot.

Les Folies d'Edmonde

This was a fun little cocktail bar in old town. Most of the seating is in the cave downstairs. Very nice staff here. They actually said that if we didn’t like our choice of cocktail we didn’t need to drink it and they would make another one for us.

The Sailor’s Pub

This place was obviously brand new (Est. 2024). It was pretty much like a sports bar in the US. Probably gets busy with Brits wanting to watch soccer. We stopped here for a beer before leaving old town and heading back to the hotel.

Paola Cantine Bar

We stopped in here for a glass of wine. The place had a classy vibe and most people were finishing up their dinner there at that time of night. The highlight for me was this little customer’s dog just roaming free everywhere in the dining area.

Fast Food République

I’ve pretty much become a kebab connoisseur at this point in the trip. Always a fine way to finish a night after a round of hitting the drinking establishments.
