Ha-Ra Club
Along with the Geary Club, I consider the Ha-Ra to be one of the establishment bars of the Tenderloin. Sure, there are plenty of good bars on Geary but I think you need to be a long-time dive to be part of the Tenderloin nobility (although I think the Ha Ra is probably borderline too nice on the interior to be a true dive).
The bar checks all the boxes: been there forever, tin ceiling (since renovation), pool table and reliable local clientele. They have a pretty good draft selection and the usual whiskey selection of a competent bar.
The place has that proper old school feel as they celebrate their history on the walls and with the decor. I also love the red lighting and furnishings that makes it always seem that there is some sort of Victorian mischief occurring.
They open at 3 PM during the week so you can get a somewhat day drinking experience and they are open early on weekends.
They had some outside seating built for COVID which I have heard is returning after they re-pave Geary.
Again - being the Tenderloin - I’m assuming you can bring your dog because - what can’t you do here? - but I’m not a local so I can’t be sure.
