Paris - (Fall 2024) - Day 6
Last day in Paris (and also of this trip)
Mamiche
I guess one indicator of a place being good is the consistency of the line of people waiting to order there. This place always had a line day or night and it was locals, not tourists here. The bacon and cheese pastry that we got was pretty amazing. I think it was 50% butter by volume.
I love how France looks like France because of the Haussmann style buildings everywhere.
Galeries Lafayette Haussmann
Holiday decorations inside the mall.
The shops consist of several buildings here in central Paris but you go to this one because of the rooftop. It provides amazing views of the city.
Amazingly was able to get a photo of this sign without people in front of it
Pigalle
Pigalle was on the way to Monmartre so we stopped to get some photos.
Some fancy macarons with printed designs on them
Le mur des je t'aime
The Wall of I Love You - very popular photo op for the tourists
Place du Tertre
This is the picturesque square by Sacré-Cœur filled with tourists and artists selling their portrait services.
Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre
This architecture of this church easily sets itself apart but it is made more stunning but being high up on a hill. The white stone catches your eye even from far away.
View from the terrace below Sacré-Cœur
Canal District
We took a train to this district by the 19th Arrondissement. It is one of the new hip areas of Paris now lined with party boats, bars, and restaurants.
Paname Brewery
This is a microbrewery sitting at the end of the canal lake. The beer was pretty good and the burger was excellent. Also - they don’t do medium rare here. It’s either medium or rare - you don’t get the in between option.
Cafe Napoleon
This was a brasserie just around the corner from the hotel. It seemed appropriate to spend some time on the last day to do the most Parisian thing possible. Camp at a cafe table and watch the world go by. The streets were bustling with rush hour activity at this time.
Mesures
The theme of this cocktail bar besides the cocktails of course is that they go for the retro audio vibe. Nylon records line the walls and they are played over vintage speakers. They also have snacks here as well.
Cambridge Public House
This place in the Marais was very busy. We were lucky to get a couple of seats at the bar and enjoyed some cocktails along with this mound of ham. I didn’t think this snack would be this big.
Manteigaria
Walking by the Pompidou Center at night, we stumbled upon what I think is the best pastry on earth. I had these pasteis de natas almost every day in Lisbon at this store and it looks like they opened a shop in Paris. A little more expensive than Lisbon but just as tasty.
Le 153
This is a bar also not far from the Pompidou Center. The downstairs was very ordinary but the upstairs had the proper cocktail bar feel. Busy and hopping at night with funky decor.
Munich Kebab
Probably very appropriate that the last stop on the trip was this place not far from the hotel. One final after drinks kebab in France.
