Nice - (Fall 2024) - Day 6

DØM

We decided to do some laundry on this day so went to the bakery while waiting for the cycle to finish. I got to partake in one of my favorite Nice foods, Pissaladière toast.

Pissaladière

This is a Nice specialty and probably my favorite of the foods that people say you need to try in Nice.

It is toasted foccacia like bread with caramelized onions and anchovies (and sometimes a black olive).

Onions and anchovies? Yes please.

J.Multari

Having completed the laundry chore, we sought out another of the famous Nice foods in Old Town, the pan bagnat.

Pan Bagnat

This is another classic Nice food item. It is basically a dressed up tuna sandwich. I mean it’s good, but it’s just a tuna sandwich.

La Villa d'Isa

We had some transit rides to burn so we headed up to the university area to walk around. They had a nice local farmers market going on in the morning and a street full of shops and restaurants. We took a break at this brasserie for some wine and people watching.

Patisserie le Vanillier

We walked by this pastry shop near the hotel almost every day for a week and finally decided to indulge in some of their sweet offerings. It did not disappoint. This is one of those places you walk into and wish that your stomach could process more food.

Le Napoléon Brasserie

When we ate at Rouge a few nights ago the owner told us that they had opened a classic brasserie in Garibaldi Square and that we should give it a try. We decided that it would be a good dinner spot for our last night in Nice. The inside seating was rather small but it was all about the two big outdoor tents that they had in the square. Had some wine with some duck and steak.

Per Lei Caffè Italiano

Headed back to Rue Bonaparte and found this little bar. It seemed like everyone who worked there were college kids so it had a youngish vibe going on. Pastis and spritz for after dinner drinks.

Le Café du Pin

On Rue Bonaparte itself is this little cafe. Nicely tented to keep it warm in the winter. Lots of food items on the menu but we were just here for the drinks.

Wayne’s Bar

Walked back to the old town for one final drink on the last night in Nice. Not too many bars open late in old Nice but this place was pretty busy. It was actually a bit too loud as they had live bands playing in different spots in the bar. Great if that is your jam but I was looking for a more chill atmosphere.
